Proper Usage of our trademarks
Many terms that we all use frequently in our everyday language were once trademarks, like "escalator," "thermos," "cellophane" and “nylon”. All of these terms lost their distinction as trademarks because their owners allowed them to be misused by the public. That's why the Velcro companies pay close attention to how all of our trademarks are used.
Don't use the brand name "VELCRO" or any other of our trademarks as a noun or generic.
Use:
• hook and loop fastener
• hook and loop tape (or hook and loop for short)
• touch fastener
• hook tape
• loop tape
The generic phrases associated with our other trademarks are is follows:
The VELCRO® trademark should be distinctive and set apart from the rest of the text.
"VELCRO" should be in all capital letters followed by the Symbol "®" whenever possible.
The word "brand" is a generic descriptor must also follow "VELCRO," like this: "VELCRO® brand (hook and loop fasteners.)"
Reference the Velcro companies as the owner of our trademarks at the end of any printed materials.
"VELCRO® is a registered trademark of Velcro Industries B.V." "ONE-WRAP® is a registered trademark of Velcro Industries B.V."
If you cannot be sure whether or not the product is a genuine VELCRO® brand fastener or one of our other registered products or trademarks, or if applying the proper trademark rules is absolutely not possible, avoid the trademark and use a generic description instead.
Hook and loop fasteners, touch fasteners, plastic buckles, straps, hook etc.
Do not use the “VELCRO®” trademark to reference products other than ours even if a VELCRO® brand product is incorporated in that product.
Obviously, the “VELCRO®” trademark can't be used to describe another brand of hook and loop fastener. There is no such thing as a "Velcro wallet" or a "Velcro runner." There are wallets and runners are "made with VELCRO®" brand hook and loop fasteners. You can't buy a piece of "velcro." but you can purchase all the VELCRO® brand hook and loop fasteners you need.
