When it comes to purchasing a baby diaper or medical brace, it’s important to know what materials go into making that product.  For many consumers and businesses today, price is not the only thing being scrutinized on a product’s labelTextile products can come in direct contact with a consumer’s skin, so it’s essential the product is free from any harmful chemicals. At Velcro Companies, we value consumer safety and our customers high-quality standards. That’s why many of our VELCRO® Brand products are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified.

What is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100?

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 testing

OEKO-TEX® is a trademark representing certifications provided by the International Association for Research & Testing in the textile industry.

Among the most recognized OEKO-TEX® labels in the world is the STANDARD 100. Products with this label have been validated that every component is free from harmful materials. STANDARD 100 tests for several hundred substances such as dyes, carcinogenic and allergy-inducing colorants, pesticides and more. Whether the substances are banned by local government or not, this can cover products such as diapers, clothing, linen, medical equipment, furniture and more.

The level of testing is broken into classes determined by a product’s exposure to skin:

Class I: Products that have the most direct contact with skin. These are products typically intended for babies and toddlers such as diapers.

Class II: Apparel textiles such as shirts and linens.

Class IIILimited direct skin contact such as jackets and outerwear.

Class IVLittle or no direct skin contact such as furnishings.

Every piece of a textile product needs to be tested and verified, including, fabric, liners, buttons and hook and loop fasteners.
